Airbnb launched its new affiliate program Airbnb Associates just over a year ago, but already they are shutting it down. Starting from March 31th it’s no longer possible to earn commissions on bookings. Also, earnings for bookings after the 31st of March won’t be paid out to affiliates.
Why does Airbnb Associates close?
No official reason for the closure is given, but according to CNBC they decided to focus on their “Recruit a host” program.
The Airbnb Associates program was one of the most promising travel affiliate programs around. Commissions were good and it was easy for travel bloggers to signup. It’s most unlikely that they will restart an affiliate program for booked stays in the near future.
Travel bloggers looking for similar affiliate programs can try out the Booking.com or TripAdvisor affiliate programs, which can both be found on the AWIN network.
